Murphy’s Braden Rumfelt urges fans to vote in a heartfelt video as American Idol moves into the intense live voting stage

As American Idol moves into its crucial live voting stage, North Carolina singer Braden Rumfelt is turning directly to fans for support — urging viewers to cast their votes in an emotional message as the competition intensifies.

The 22-year-old contestant from Murphy has steadily built momentum throughout Season 24, and many viewers now see him as one of the singers quietly emerging as a serious contender for the title. In a heartfelt video shared with supporters, Rumfelt called on fans to help push him into the next round as voting officially opens.

Rumfelt’s rise in the competition has not come without challenges. The young singer has dealt with knee problems for much of his life and has undergone surgery, but he has continued to pursue music despite the setbacks.

Music, he says, has always been part of his life thanks to his family. In a pre-recorded segment before one of his performances, Rumfelt reflected on how his upbringing shaped his path.

“When I was a baby, my dad would sit musical instruments at the bottom of our cribs,” he recalled. “He felt like that was going to give us these abilities. Growing up in a family where it’s cool to sing — that’s what got me to this point. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be here, much less going to Hawaii.”

Rumfelt first caught attention during his audition with a performance of Girl Crush by Little Big Town. He later showed another side of his artistry during Hollywood Week with I’m Not the Only One by Sam Smith.

During the Top 30 “Ohana Round,” Rumfelt once again demonstrated his versatility with a soulful rendition of If I Ain’t Got You by Alicia Keys. His performance began softly before building into powerful emotional moments that highlighted his smooth tone and vocal control.

Judge Luke Bryan had previously described Rumfelt as a “race horse” in the competition, suggesting he has the potential to go far if he continues to grow onstage. Meanwhile, Carrie Underwood praised his performance afterward, telling him his voice was “velvety and big” and that he had “a lot of power in all the right places.”

Rumfelt ultimately advanced into the Top 20, bringing him one step closer to the grand prize. The round saw several contestants eliminated, including Chloe Lauren, Sheldon Riley, Bryant Thomas, Michael Garner, Bella Emry, Brenna Brigman, Kiera Howell, Brianna Yancey, Jacquie Lee and Tianna.

Over the next two weeks, the remaining contestants will perform for America’s votes at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa. The singers will also receive guidance from celebrity mentors Brad Paisley and Keke Palmer as they compete for a spot in the next round.
