Chloe Lauren speaks out after her emotional Adele cover leads to her exit, while Luke Bryan gives her gentle advice

An emotional moment unfolded on American Idol when Aiken County native Chloe Lauren broke her silence after a tearful performance that ultimately sent her home from the competition.

The 25-year-old stay-at-home mom from Warrenville, South Carolina first captured the hearts of judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie during her audition earlier in the season. Overwhelmed with emotion at the time, she told the judges through tears, “I’m so lucky. I didn’t think I’d ever get to be somewhere like this.”

Her journey through Hollywood Week wasn’t easy. At one point, Lauren addressed online comments about her emotional reactions, explaining that her feelings came from passion and commitment to the opportunity.

“I’ve seen some comments online calling me ‘too emotional,’ and I want to be clear — being emotional means I’m invested, present, and passionate,” she shared in an earlier Instagram Stories post.

auren managed to survive the final stage of Hollywood Week after winning a sing-off against fellow contestant Mary Jo Young. But during the show’s Ohana Round, her performance proved more challenging.

Taking the stage to sing “Hello” by Adele, Lauren became overwhelmed while performing with the live band and struggled to stay steady through parts of the song. Judge Luke Bryan quietly encouraged her during the performance, whispering advice about learning to control her emotions on stage.

Despite the difficulties, Carrie Underwood praised Lauren for pushing through the moment, telling her, “Way to finish strong.”

In the end, however, Lauren did not advance to the next round and was among the contestants sent home after the Ohana Round. The elimination placed her alongside several other hopefuls who also fell short of the Top 20.

Chloe Lauren shares heartfelt message after elimination

After the episode aired, Lauren took to social media to reflect on her journey and respond to criticism about her emotional moments during the competition. In a long message, she shared gratitude for the opportunity while defending her authenticity.

“Feeling grateful today. Grateful for the chance to stand on the Idol stage, grateful for what I learned, and grateful for every person who believed in me along the way,” she wrote.

“This experience pushed me in ways I didn’t expect—it showed me parts of myself I hadn’t seen before, and it reminded me how much I still get to grow.”

Addressing criticism directly, Lauren explained that showing emotion on the show came from being genuine in a completely new and intense environment.

“I’m not ‘too emotional.’ I’m not ‘not confident.’ I’m a human being who walked into something completely new, with cameras, pressure, and millions of eyes on me for the first time,” she continued. “I showed up as myself, not a version of me I thought people wanted. That alone took courage.”

She also emphasized that the reality show experience does not define her future.

“What I know for sure is that God has a plan for my life, and no TV moment — good or bad — can stop what He’s already written. American Idol doesn’t define me or anyone else who steps on that stage. It’s a show. It’s entertainment. It’s not the full story of who we are as people or as artists.”

“I’m walking away with gratitude, growth, and a fire in my heart to keep going. I can’t wait for what’s to come. Thank you to everyone who’s supported me, prayed for me, and seen my heart through it all. This is just the beginning for me.”

Fans show support after her exit

Following her message, fans quickly flooded the comments with support and encouragement.

“You were one of my top favorites. So incredibly sad to see you go. You have an amazing voice, girl,” one viewer wrote.

Another supporter praised her courage, saying, “You are so incredible, and now the world knows how incredible you are.”

Others pointed out how difficult it is to perform songs by Adele on such a big stage. “None of us watching at home could sing Adele! You have a gorgeous voice. Keep singing!” one comment read.

Many fans also encouraged her to keep pursuing music beyond the show. “Heartbroken that my girl was eliminated, but you have a beautiful music career ahead of you,” another supporter wrote.

Despite her early exit, the response from fans suggests Lauren’s emotional honesty and powerful voice left a lasting impression and for many viewers, her story may only be the beginning.
