“I Love Innovation… But Something Feels Off About This One”
Christian Artist Forrest Frank Speaks Out On A.I. Music Taking Over The Charts
“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!”
— Psalm 150:6
Christian singer Forrest Frank has had an incredible year. After his recent GMA Dove Award win for Artist of the Year and hit tracks like “Lemonade” and “Your Way’s Better” climbing onto the Billboard charts, he has a lot to be grateful for.
But this week, he took to social media with a concern many believers didn’t see coming.
On Thursday, November 20, Forrest posted a video showing that the No. 1 Christian album on iTunes right now isn’t made by a human at all — it’s generated by A.I.
The album topping the chart is Faithful Soul by “Solomon Ray,” an artist created entirely through artificial intelligence.
Not only that — the top two Christian singles on iTunes are also A.I.-generated tracks by Solomon Ray: “Find Your Rest” and “Goodbye Temptation.”
These songs are currently outranking music from well-known Christian artists like Brandon Lake, Elevation Worship, Phil Wickham… even Forrest himself.
Forrest Frank Raises a Red Flag
“I hate to even bring attention to this,” Forrest said as he addressed the A.I. artist, “but I think believers need to be aware this is happening.”
He encouraged his followers to pause and ask a serious question:
“Is this something we want for Christian music?”
Forrest explained his discomfort further:
“At minimum, A.I. does not have the Holy Spirit inside of it. I think it’s really weird to be opening up your spirit to something that has no spirit.”
He went on to say he personally won’t be listening to it:
“I already don’t listen to secular artists, and I’m definitely not going to listen to A.I. Christian music.”
Christian Artists and Fans React
Phil Wickham echoed Forrest's concerns:
“It’s hard to imagine a future where we look back and say A.I. was a net positive. It should be a tool — not a replacement for people.”
One commenter pointed directly to Scripture, reminding others of Psalm 150:6:
“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.”
Others expressed confusion, shock, or sadness that an artificial voice could outrank human worship and testimony.
Who Is Solomon Ray?
Christianity Today ran a story titled “The Current No. 1 Christian Artist Has No Soul,” diving into the rise of the A.I. phenomenon.
According to The Christian Post, Solomon Ray is a digital persona created by Mississippi-based artist Christopher Jermaine Townsend, known professionally as Topher.
Despite not being a real person, “Solomon Ray” has already gained:
-
over 324,000 monthly listeners
-
a No. 1 spot on the iTunes Christian/Gospel charts
-
verified artist status on streaming platforms
On Instagram, the A.I. artist’s bio boldly states:
“A.I. voice, Mississippi soul.”
And a recent post reads:
“The future arrived faster than anyone expected. And his name is Solomon Ray.”
Church Leaders Weigh In
Churches and theologians have also been responding to the rise of A.I.
Grace Community Church (the longtime ministry of the late John MacArthur) released a statement saying:
“Artificial intelligence is a misnomer… It cannot independently think or create — the best it can do is mimic.”
The Vatican issued guidance earlier this year, warning that A.I. carries both great potential and great risk:
“Like any product of human creativity, A.I. can be directed toward positive or negative ends…
Yet the shadow of evil also looms here.”
A.I. Christian Music: Innovation or Imitation?
While many Christians are refusing to embrace A.I.-generated worship, the numbers don’t lie — Solomon Ray is dominating the charts.
Some welcome the innovation.
Others feel deeply uneasy.
And Forrest Frank isn’t alone in sounding the alarm.
As A.I. continues to blur the lines between real and artificial, Christian music may be facing a defining moment:
What does it mean to worship if the voice singing has no breath, no testimony, and no soul?
