NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Metro Police confirm the body of missing college student Riley Strain was recovered from the Cumberland River on Friday morning.
Strain's body was recovered in West Nashville, about 8 miles from downtown, police confirm. Metro Police Chief John Drake said the department received a call from an employee who works along the river around 7:30 a.m. Friday.
The worker had been searching the river for any evidence of Strain when they noticed his body surface.
Medical examiners on the scene were able to confirm the body's identification by the shirt, which Strain was wearing when he disappeared, along with his watch.
There is no foul play-related trauma observed and an autopsy is pending at this time. The family has been notified at this time.
My heart and prayers go out to you all for this very unfortunate and tragic incident,” Chief John Drake said during the news conference.
The fire department was called to the scene to
retrieve the body early Friday morning.
It was not first known that the body recovered was Strain's when first reported.
